MUFFINS AND CUPCAKES ARE TWO OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!
Cupcakes are essentially a miniature cake. Either cake flour or all-purpose flour is usually used along with lots of room temperature butter and granulated sugar. Cupcakes are normally topped with sugary frosting and can have candies as decorations. So they are 100% sweet and definitely in the dessert category.
The difference in preparation of the two baked goods is the cupcake ingredients are emulsified, in stages, into a smooth batter, while the muffin ingredients are roughly stirred, all together, just until combined.
Muffins can be slightly sweet or even savory, using vegetables as well as fruit in the batter. All-purpose flour is typical, but whole grain flours and oats make the best muffins in my opinion.
I only use whole wheat flour, white whole wheat flour, oats and other whole grains, and have baked some of the best tasting muffins around. I almost always add nuts or seeds, and oil or a small amount of melted butter is used.
Based on the natural ingredients in my recipes, I consider the yummy muffins a Real Food Meal breakfast food.
THIS IS A TIRAMISU FLAVORED TRADITIONAL CUPCAKE
I purchased this tiramisu cupcake from a bakery and boy was it scrumptious. But I can only consume a dessert like this occasionally because the sugar level is much too high for my body to handle on a regular basis. In fact, I could only eat half of the delectable cake, so my husband and I shared it.
I’m all about eating as healthy as possible, but sometimes you just need to have some old-fashioned cake.

Since I adore cake, this is the best way for me to frequently enjoy a food I love. Healthy whole grains and oats, fruits or vegetables, nuts or seeds, low amounts of unrefined sugar, low or no butter, and no frosting. And they taste delicious too.
I call these healthy muffins “My Every Day Cake!”

Just to clarify, even though this cupcake has fresh fruit for a topping it is still a cupcake, not a muffin! But isn’t it gorgeous!!
